  • Lights Out DC Campaign: This workgroup partners with other local organizations on a campaign to encourage local Washington DC buildings and residents to reduce outdoor lighting during migratory bird season.

  • Local Legislation: This workgroup will compile current DC lighting laws and regulations, consider measures used by other states and cities, draft proposed legislation, and develop a campaign for local legislative & regulatory reform.

  • Rock Creek Park Golf Course Lighting Plan: This workgroup advocates for dark-sky-compliant lighting at the Rock Creek Park Golf Course in Washington DC, which is currently undergoing renovation.

  • Streetlight Illuminance Monitoring: This workgroup is conducting a research study to measure the brightness of streetlights across Washington DC, and volunteers can help with the light sampling and analysis.

  • Outreach Team: This workgroup conducts community outreach on light pollution at local events like the DC State Fair, the Astronomy Festival on the National Mall, and neighborhood street festivals. Help us spread the word!
