Sharing the Stars at DC’s Biggest Festivals
On September 6, 2025, DarkSky DC volunteers brought the wonder of the night sky to two of Washington’s most popular events—the DC State Fair and the National Book Festival. With tables set up at both events, our chapter connected with hundreds of people, sparking conversations about light pollution and the steps we can take together to minimize its impact.
Children in enjoyed connect-the-dots constellation puzzles, while adults learned about light trespass and ways to make their homes and communities more night-friendly. Many visitors paused to share their cherished memories of rare, breathtaking nights under a truly dark sky—moments that underscored why our work matters.
Through these conversations and interactive activities, DarkSky DC members spread awareness and build community. The enthusiasm we encountered reminds us that people value the stars above and want to help protect them. We’re grateful to everyone who stopped by our tables, and we look forward to continuing the work of restoring the natural night for all.
